Scholarships Current Members Scholarships may be awarded to current members of the Redcoat Band who demonstrate in their membership uncommon excellence in performance, citizenship, and leadership. Evidence may include observation during band activities and the recommendation of faculty or staff. Incoming Members Limited funds may also be awarded to incoming members with strong potential to contribute exceptionally to the Redcoat Band's purposes. Evidence may include information from the candidate's application, references, audition, and past interaction with faculty. Incoming students majoring in fields other than music who wish to be considered for scholarship are strongly encouraged to submit a dossier supporting their likely success as a performer, citizen, and leader in the Redcoat Band. The dossier may include a résumé, additional letters of reference, personal statements, documentation of outstanding achievement in high school band or other organizations, and any other media that may offer additional support. These students are very strongly encouraged to complete submission of their audition and scholarship dossier prior to the Priority Audition Deadline of April 1. Submission instructions for the dossier will be sent to students after they have submitted their audition. Service Awards Service Teams Members who serve on one or more of the Redcoat Band service teams will be thanked with a service award during their semesters of service. Each of the service teams specializes in a particular area of service to the band including media production/social media, uniform administration, music library management, and transportation. Returning members are eligible to be appointed to service teams, following a selection process held during spring semester. Sports Bands Performance in bands at sports other than football may also lead to service awards. Components of the Redcoat Band perform at about 100 athletic events per year including volleyball matches, soccer matches, mens' and women's basketball games, gymnastics meets, tennis matches, and softball games. In addition, the Spring Sport Band participates in all SEC and NCAA Basketball Tournaments in which Georgia's teams compete. Fall Sports Band is staffed primarily by members of the Derbies Pep Band and UGA Drumline, with supplementation by other invited Redcoats. Spring Sports Band is open to any member of the Redcoat Band following a brief application and selection process.
